Kerala adopting new trends in wedding:

Malayalee families are now adopting the world’s trends and different traditions to their son’s/ daughter’s wedding and wedding planners are now become the one-stop-shop, they can rely upon, to make the wedding ‘one of it’s kind’. Nation’s borders do not cause a hurdle to today’s generation to bring whatever, which is found to be special and exotic. Let’s take a look at what is in this season of a Malayalee wedding.

Trends in wedding invitations:

The current trend is giving a small box, instead of an ordinary card. The box would contain a short description about the couple in scented paper, usually with their photos. It contains some small gifts like chocolates or even some expensive favors like gold coins, etc. , to the very special guests. Expensive cards, decorated with beads or crystals are also in vogue. The range will be from Rs.200-400 per card and above, according to the decoration.

Dance ,music and entertainment:

This become a must in the pre-wedding ceremonies of today’s youth. North Indian rituals like Sangeet and Mehndi has now become popular items in Kerala’s wedding ceremonies, and even western traditions like Bachelor and bachelorette parties now become a fashion in India. Top musicians and artists present programs in the function and reality –show stars are also in great demand.

Wedding favors/ take away gifts:

Keep in mind that the gifts should be useful to the guests, which also keeps the memories of the wedding alive in their minds. Eg: At a recent wedding, the take-away gift was a small glass filled with wax with the couple's pictures on either side. The glass can used as a candle as well.

Classic wedding:

Wedding arrangements, especially the colour pattern used in the wedding venue matters a lot and here comes the idea of a ’theme wedding’. In such a wedding, everything will be decorated according to that theme and the thematic grandeur makes it something different from the usual ‘boring’ rituals. The couple can even take the help and guidance of famous designers.

Taking pictures:

Candid is the trend, with couples preferring natural shots over the typical styles. Another popular trend is to show the photographs of the couple from their childhood to the present.

Variety cuisines:

Cuisines now become traditional to international, and in some celebrity weddings there are halls devoted entirely to special kind of desserts, juices, or so.

Roka or Sagaai: Its a formal engagement ceremony or pre-wedding announcement where both families exchange gifts and good luck charms. In Kerala, it is traditionally done by the exchange of horoscopes of the boy and the girl, by the elders of the family.
